WHISPERER
I was meditating today as has been my practice for a long time. Those who know me, know that I love people and I love life. As part of this love, I write articles about life and, my thoughts, that I share with the public with no expectation of receiving anything in return. In my quest for what I view as my purpose in life, I have read many books I have always, as far as I can remember, enjoyed genre on self improvement, spirituality and self help. I have been called a motivational enthusiast/speaker, spiritual blogger, life coach etc. So, while meditating today, I came to a conclusion. I am not a life coach or a motivational speaker because I do not have any ulterior motives. By this I mean that if you look at motivational speakers, life coaches or even preachers, they all get compensated for their time. I have a profession that compensates me very well for the services that I render which is the practice of law. When you look at motivational speakers etc., they expect to get paid for their time. Look at how many are current or past professional athletes or celebrities. They use their status to become "motivational speakers." Corporations pay large amounts of money for them to speak to their work force. I'm not sure what benefits, if any, will be received by an individual to listen to a celebrity, who in some cases may only be a high school graduate, who is an amazing basketball player who has earned millions of dollars playing a game, tell you how you should live your life or how you can be successful in your 9-5 programming job in corporate America. Or a Tim Robbins, who's net worth is approximately half a billion dollars speaking to you about how successful you too can be. Or a Joel Olsteen, preaching to you from the pulpit on how you too can succeed while he lives in a mansion and is earning millions of dollars per year. It is very easy to speak about being positive when you are making huge amounts of money and living a comfortable life. That is the state of the motivational speaking industry as I see it. I am completely for helping individuals live a full, successful, robust life but, I question the true motivation, no pun intended, of a speaker who gets paid very well by using his or her status to have the privilege to speak to a crowd. To me, it seems disingenuous. I see it as my purpose or bliss not my occupation or a hobby. So therefore, I consider myself a "wisdom whisperer."
As aforementioned, spreading my wisdom is totally free. Of course, I have had to overcome the attitude that most individuals have and that is that if it is free, it's not worth anything. Ironically, most things that we get for free at birth, we take for granted. Things that are the most important things for life, for example, our heart, brain, organs etc., that came free at birth, we really do not pay any attention to. Some pay more attention and even treat better their house, or watch or car than they treat their free, life sustaining organs. They neglect the "free stuff" that came at birth and keep us alive because it came for free. Moreover, a whisperer is a person skilled in the taming or training a specified kind of animal, typically using body language and gentle vocal encouragement rather than physical contact. As it relates to humans, you probably know that modern humans belong to a species of Homo sapiens which can move on their own and are placed in the animal kingdom. In addition, humans belong to the animal phylum known as chordates. My point is that I consider myself a wisdom whisperer because I love to share my thoughts about life with the readers and I come to you free. So, as aforementioned, when I mediated today it all came together for me. I am not a motivational speaker or life coach or spiritual blogger or preacher etc., because I do not want or expect any compensation in return for my disseminating wisdom. I truly believe that it is my calling to assist individuals to live a better life, not to better my life financially. My reward is far more reaching then financial. It connects me deeper to my source, which to me is pure love. That to me is my ultimate compensation. This is how I believe I can make a difference. This is my calling. When this came to me today, I was literally floored in tears, I had this feeling permeating through my body that I never had before. I truly believe that I was connected to my source which made me lose tract of time and space. This is why I consider myself a "wisdom whisperer." I love my life. I love people and I am so grateful that I have figured out my purpose. I leave you with a quote on point by Seneca. "It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor."
Just a thought.
