MINORITY
This article is not about politics or ethnic minorities of any sort. Although, I am a first generation immigrant of Cuban decent, and I advocate for a free Cuba, this isn't about that. If you read any of my previous articles, and there are many, you will conclude that I keep politics and religion out of my writings. To me, politics and religion are a sort of contact sport. Those two subjects are polarizing and seem to divide individuals instead of bringing them together. Think about it for a moment. You are either a democrat or a republican a Christian or a Jew, or a Muslim or an Atheist or a whatever. You get my point. So back to the title of my article, a minority or a minority group, by its original definition, refers to a group of individuals whose practices, race, religion, ethnicity, or other characteristics are fewer in numbers than the main groups of those classifications. Growing up in New York City, aside from it being an international city, I never felt that I was part of any group let alone a minority group. That wasn't how I was raised. However, as I was going through my daily workout routine and mediation today, I had an epiphany. I am part of a minority group. And let me explain what I mean before being called a hypocrite.
I am in a super minority group of individuals who believe that we can control our lives simply by making a few simple changes. I believe that our minds in general and the thoughts that we allow into our minds is what makes our lives a reality. Putting a thought or idea in your mind is your choice. Staying positive in your thinking is your choice. Looking at a difficult time in your life as a learning experience is your choice. Deciding on what's important in your life is your choice. Deciding to make a commitment, in what ever it is you want to do in your life, is your choice. Even deciding whether you want to live or die is your choice. It is that simple. The time you spend on whatever it is you spend your time on is a great indicator of what's important to you. In other words, if you say you want to write a book but you spend a substantial amount of time watching television, I would say you are not committed to writing your book. If you say you want to lose weight and workout out but you spend your time eating unhealthy food and sleeping in on a regular bases, I would say you are not committed to better health. If you say you want to stop drinking alcohol but you reek of alcohol, you're not committed. My point is that how you spend your money and how you spend your time says a lot about what is important to you. You alone have the power to change your life for the better. You alone are the decider of what is important to you. You alone are the writer, director, producer and star of your movie titled "Life"! You alone decide whether it's going to be a huge success or a flop. You alone have that power. So therefore, I am a minority. I am part of a minority group of the 5% of the human population that believes that we can and should live a complete life. In fact, I believe it is every individual's obligation to do so. I read once where it stated, "God's gift to us is giving us life and our gift to God is how we choose to live our life." I encourage individuals to join this special minority group. Your life will be changed for the better. I leave you with a quote from Norman Vincent Peal on point, "If happiness is determined by our thoughts it is necessary to drive off the thoughts which make for depression and discouragement."
Just a thought.
