THE ROAD
Life is really a road. It is a road of obstacles. Most individuals wear blindfolds while traveling on the road of life. They are focused on a destination. I guarantee you that the one road that we will all reach is death. At birth, we are all born with a road map. That road map leads everyone of us to death. That is the end of the road. That is our destination regardless, of your race, sex, religion, creed, title, education, social economic level, what car you drive, what type of house you have, what kind of parent you were, what kind of spouse you were etc... Life is understanding what your final destination is. But, we have the ability of creating our own road map in the interim.
Life is understanding, that we are here for a short period of time. Although, we all have an inevitable final destination, we have an opportunity to decide which detours to take. We have total control on how we want to pave our roads. Some would rather travel a road well travelled. As long as that is their decision, and, they are comfortable with that decision then, they should be happy. Although, I really believe that they are ignorant to their possibilities. Others, would rather travel a road less traveled. In this category, a person may want to do things that have already been done so that they have a level of comfort knowing where a particular road will lead to but, they still have some challenges. And, in another category, there are individuals who rather pave their own road. Those are the individuals that go against the grain. These individuals are said to beat to the beat of a different drum. Some may even describe them as weird. You, can include me in the latter category.
Looking back at my life, whenever I was told, for what ever reason, that I couldn't do it, I did it. You see, I understood that the only obstacle that will prevent you from doing anything you want to do is YOU. You and only you! If you decide to take the road mostly travelled, your destination is predictable. You will live an average life. You will avoid the broken glass, the potholes, and all the other challenges that an unpaved road will throw your way. No different than say, climbing a mountain. If your climb is not challenging, not too steep, and, it's a safe mountain to climb, the view, once you get to the top will be nothing to brag about. In fact, you may even ask yourself, why did you waste your time climbing? However, if you climb a steep challenging mountain, I'm sure your view will be captivating. The irony, is that we are all born with the same seeds of creativity. It is human nature to explore, create and grow. We all have the same ability to be in the category to create and pave our own road in life but, the majority, let fear and doubt drive us to the road less travelled. Robert frost stated, " Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." I take it a step further. I say pave your own road. I leave you with one of my favorite poems on point.
"There are many different paths that exist, don't be afraid to pave your own. Lead others by your example, but, inspire them not to follow the path you've shown."
