DOMINOS
Symbolically, dominos can represent obstacle in our lives. Things like doubt, fear, opinions of others, ill health, debt, etc... Hence the phrase, "fall like dominos." A domino effect is one decision or action that can lead to a host of other interconnected decisions or actions that turns into a suction cup that is very difficult to escape, if not impossible. I use the word impossible loosely because I believe that nothing within the law of probabilities is impossible. But, to believe this you have to be enlightened spiritually. Back to this domino phenomena. If you ever stubbed your toe, you know how painful that may be. It then follows a chain reaction of events that lead to a bad day. That is because this painful experience activates a cumulative chain of events that unless your are aware of this phenomenon will lead you into a vicious circle of negative events.
This can be a determinative factor in answering the question on why you are today where you are. Here is an example of what I mean. Let's say, you are eighteen years old and you graduate high school. We can all agree that's a big occasion in a person's life. So, your friends take you out to celebrate. You then drink a bit too much alcohol. Regardless of whether you are of legal age to drink alcohol. You then decide to drive home intoxicated. You excuse your bad decision by reasoning in your impaired state of mind that you are a few blocks away from home. You then get stopped by a police officer and arrested for driving under the influence. Aside from the cost of your defense, the college that you were accepted into for your pre-medical studies that you starting in the fall. You then can not start in the fall, because you have to resolve your criminal charge of driving intoxicated. And, in addition, the school had a strict admission policy requiring no criminal convictions on your record. There are no exceptions. Regardless of whether you can get into a diversion program and eventually get your criminal case dismissed, you have set in motion a chain of events that can have a profound effect in your life. This is a classic example of a dominos effect.
In the John Lennon song "Beautiful Boy," he states, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." That is one of the challenges of life. I remember seeing bracelets with the words inscribed stating, " What would Jesus do?" I am not a religious person. So, I changed the wording to suit me to say, "What would my father say?" I had a close relationship with my father and before I acted upon an impulse in my younger days, I would ask myself that question. More often than not, the answer was clear and I would make the right decision. What is telling, at least for me, is that individuals in sports or certain professions etc..., train often to master their craft. And one of the benefits or repetitive training is that when things get stressful, and, they need to make quick decisions, they revert back to their training. Well, no different in life. When I have met a challenge or obstacle, I would and still do ask myself the question, What would my father say or do?
In life we have to understand that our past decisions are who we are today. It all is a domino effect. Good or bad it is where we are today. If you do not like where you are, change your habits. If you are unhappy with your weight, change your eating habits and exercise. If you are in debt, change your spending habits or employment. If you are shy join a social group, etc... Your life tomorrow will be exactly as today except that you will be one year older. You have the power to change your life for the better. You have the power to create a wonderful, positive domino effect for your future. You just have to want to change. And, since you are reading this article, I am assuming your are on the right path. I leave you with a poem on point, titled, "Domino Effect."
A chain of reaction, setting cause of similar effect. Misfortunes never comes singly, the domino effect. Like dominos we stand. Humble and tall. Quite clumsily we fall in the thick of things. On rock solid ground. Solidarity is shown. Like dominos we stand. In tough times, we soldier on. Unity is born. Empires rise and fall. We pick ourselves up. Life carries on. Inpursuit of dreams, we press on. remarkably we all fall. We puppets on strings. Daily or routine. Balancing life on a string. Like dominos we all stand. Yet we all fall. Down trodden youth. Don't stay grounded far too long. These are life's balances, to make sure and strong. Always remember life is more than a board game. Life has no other comparison. Like dominos we all stand. In one accord unison, together for one.
