OLD
Why grow old? I understand that the physical body will eventually deteriorate. That is just how nature works. But, in a spiritual sense, why grow old? Old just like youth is not a matter of time. Instead, it is a mental state. We constantly are conditioned to think growing old is connected to age. We have evidence of this behavior all around us. I know a person who is middle age who walks, talks, acts, eats, dresses, and behaves like an old lady. When she walks, she does so very gingerly taking short slow steps looking at the ground for fear of falling. I finally got the courage to ask her what is her aliment? To my surprise, or maybe not a surprise because I am sure most individuals suffer from this way of thinking, she answered, "I am getting old." This is a women in her early sixties. I am not judging her because we chose the life we want. But, to me, I literally cannot comprehend that way of being. Individuals are so quick to blame "Old man age," for their physical and mental aliments. You can have vigor, regardless of age. You can have that bounce in your step. You can have that radiating energy. It is all about how you think. How often have you heard seniors saying "if I can only live my life over again." The fact is you truly can live your life over again. Or I should say, start living your life as it is meant to be. It is never too late. It does not matter if you're 40, 60, 80 or beyond. It is all in your mind.
We are all created as perfect beings. But somewhere in the walk of life, we were told that age is a barrier to youth. We seem to hold preconceived ideas of old age. We add certain diseases to certain stages of old age. With all these self inflicted worries we wonder why people are dropping dead younger. Since it is all in the way you think, they are fulfilling their self-fulfilling prophesies and reaching their golden years in full service nursing homes, with unlimited aliments. No wonder why the nursing home industry and their partners in the pharmaceutical industry are a multi-billion dollar industry. Negative thoughts of disease, fear, stress, etc..., poison the cells of the body to a point where the organs malfunction. If you don't believe me, next time you eat under stress or fear, pay attention to how you feel physically. Pay attention to how your digestive system is impacted. Compare that to when you are on vacation all spread out on a white sandy beach. Through your mind and thoughts, you create the life you want. This includes your health and your perception of the aging process. As a society we should pay less attention to the appearance of the physical body and more attention to the thoughts that create the physique. My affirmation to myself is that, "I will never grow old!" Growing old is definitely not for me. It doesn't have to be for you either. There is an alternative to growing old. The alternative is that you have to realign the way you think about age. Age is a beautiful natural thing as long as you keep, "getting old," out of it. I once told a friend who was complaining about getting old, that, "just because you're getting old, doesn't mean you're getting old." At the time he laughed but I was serious. Age and old are not the same and should never be used together. I leave you with a quote by Albert Einstein, "Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born."
Just a thought.
