POVERTY
Poverty sucks!! I truly believe that poverty should be classified a disease. You don't need to be a genius to understand this proposition. However, it's not classified as such. In an impoverished society, there is a much higher rate of physical or mental diseases. There are higher rates of disability. There are higher rates of premature death. There are higher rates of violence. There are higher rates of drug and alcohol abuse. There is a higher rate of crime. There are high rates of vices. There are higher rates of high school drop outs. There are higher rates of TB, malaria, HIV/AIDS. So why is poverty not classified a disease? It truly rattles my intellect. In my opinion, poverty is the root of all evil. Ironically, some may think that money is the root of all evil. I am disappointed to say but, in my opinion, why poverty is not classified a disease is because the powers to be are kept in power by not focusing on eliminating it. This is a disease that can be eradicated off the face of the earth. It is up to each and everyone of us to play our part.
Poverty and wealth are the opposite sides of the same coin. Remember as a youngster we would play a game by flipping a coin and saying out loud, "Heads I win , tails you lose." In this metaphorical coin where heads is wealth and tails is poverty, I am more inclined at this stage in my life to say that heads I win and tails we all lose. You see, if we do not rid the world of this disease, we all lose. The world as I see it is not set up to help the impoverished succeed. Most politicians or even individuals in general, are living in denial. Politicians pretend to care by giving hand outs and investing tax dollars on social programs but, the way I see it, that is just handing out scraps to keep society from revolting against those in power. Powers by the way that were supposed to have been given to them temporarily by we the people to hold in trust. Moreover, we all have an obligation to use our endowed powers granted by our creator through the power of our thoughts to make a difference. Joe Lewis said "everyone wants to go to heaven but, no one wants to die." By analogy regarding poverty, everyone want to succeed but poverty is the other persons problem. I am here to say that it is collectively our problem to eradicate. But it all starts with our way of thinking. We first need to change the rooted negative thoughts about money and then change our attitude from a reactive to a proactive way of thinking. If you are not where you want to be change it. It is up to you to change your life. Your life is no one else's business. It's not government's business, your parent's business, your neighbor's business, your banker's business, your spouse's business, your children's business etc. It all starts with you. Change your attitude for the better. Increase your lifestyle so that you can then be in a position to lead others into this promise land of prosperity or heaven. I am not religious but I am a spiritual person. So please understand that I am not trying to offend individuals that follow religion. However, my interpretation of heaven is from the original Greek text which used the word "Ouranos," meaning expansion. Therefore, my view of heaven is an expansion of the mind to live a full life. A life where all individuals understand that they have the power to eradicate poverty and live a life of their choosing. Remember, Poverty Sucks!! I leave you with a quote on point by Anthony Horwitz, "Childhood, after all, is the first precious coin that poverty steals from a child."
Just a thought.
