METAPHOR
In early spring I decided to take my oldest son to New York City so we could spend some quality time together. Part of our activities was to go to a Broadway show. Growing up in New York City, Broadway shows were a common occurrence for me. For me, there is something energizing about going to a Broadway show. I get mesmerized and feel a spiritual connection to the actors. I get so into it that I look for things that I bet most people don't pay attention to. Things like whether the actors are wearing knee pads under their trousers when they are sliding on the stage on their knees or, if they try to clear their throats prior to singing. Things that I am sure most people don't notice or don't care about. So anyway, my son and I got to see the Broadway show, "Book of Mormon." It is a fabulous musical comedy. It is a satirical examination of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' beliefs and practices that ultimately endorses the positive power of love and service. It was for adults only and if you ever have the privledge to see it you would understand why. It certainly is not for the easily offended. Part of the plot revolves around young Mormons going to an Africa island to minister the book of Mormon to the natives. One of the main characters, a young Mormon obviously did not pay attention to his studies because his teachings to the natives were not anything, even remotely, close to the scriptures in the book of Mormons. So he lied and exaggerated about the scriptures. When the elders found out they excommunicated them from the church but the natives loved them and reasoned that the exaggerations and lies were just metaphors and that it was an excellent way to learn about the book of Mormon.
As I go through life, isn't that what life it? Just a metaphor? We are more than just what our conscious minds through the assistance of our senses tell us we are. We are spiritual beings. What we see in flesh and bones cannot be who we really are. Part of who we are is intellect, emotions, fears, passions, and creativity. It begs the question, who commands out intellect and creativity? It obviously is not what we know through our senses. There has to be something internal and unseen that is part of us. Who we are is just a metaphor. Who we really are is spiritual. If you don't believe me just look at all the religions of the world. There are 4,300 religions of the world. This is according to Adherents, an independent, nonreligious affiliated organization that monitors the number and size of the world's religions. And, many of them believe that one's status in the afterlife is a reward or punishment for their conduct during life. Another question I have is, if we are all going somewhere afterlife then why couldn't there be a beforelife? My point is that no one really knows. But what I do know is that something keeps me alive when I am sleeping. That same "thing," which I believe is the universal powers or god, is available at will to all of us. We just have to believe in this all inclusive omnipotent universal power. You don't have to earn your place in the afterlife because you are living it everyday. Through the power of our minds, we can access this omnipotent universal power. So one final question. What are you waiting for? I leave you with a short quote on point.
"Determination can make the impossible possible for all."

Just a thought.
