COURAGE

Courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one.  Remember back when you were a little kid and you feared the dark?  Then, eventually you learned that darkness does not really exist because it was just the absence of light.  So you flipped the light switch and your fear disappeared almost as fast as the light turned on.  When I see successful people, they are not successful because they have something we do not have or that they  possess a certain quality that only successful people possess.  When you break it down, all they have which is what we all have is courage.  They have the courage to start something.  We are all born with it.  If you do nor believe me look at an infant.  An infant can climb on a ledge and laugh while his parents run to the rescue yelling and screaming.  Watch a 3 year old holding on to the edge of a pool and eventually he lets go to reach the other side while his parents are practically having a heart attack.  What changed in the instance the child decided to let go?  Nothing, he just resorted to his inner given seed of courage.
We all have been endowed with the seed of courage.  It came free at birth, just as the air we breath is free.  That is all it takes to succeed in any endeavor we choose.  But, we have to get started.  I am not saying that everything you start is going to be a success.  But, it certainly will not succeed if you do not get started.  And, even if it did not result in what you expected, it will strengthen you toward inevitable success.  Unless you start something, the world will never see it.  It is akin to having a beautiful Rolls Royce in your garage but you do not want to start up the engine and drive it because of fear that it will get a chip.  If you study  the history of successful individuals in any industry or sport, the one thing they had in common is that they had no fear and, they got started.  In my opinion, the most severe tragic affecting mankind is an individual who never starts anything.  I read once where an unknown writer stated "every man has within him the making of a great saint and everyone of us has within him the making of a great success."
It really does not matter  how old you are or what race you are, or what gender you are or what ethnicity you are or what religion you practice or not.  These are all excuses that throughout time we have created to justify not getting started.  You see, it is easy to do nothing.  It takes no effort.  It takes no courage to do nothing.  There are many who prefer that.  There are many who fear and use every obstacle in the world as an excuse not to get started.  But, in the end, they are only cheating themselves.  We live in the best and most advance democracy on the planet.  But many do not take advantage of this.  This country is a democracy not necessarily of place but of opportunity.  As aforementioned, it does not matter where you came from or if you were born on 5th avenue in NYC  or in the ghetto's of Compton.  Those are all excuses.  We all have an equal opportunity to succeed.  I leave you with a quote by Vincent Van Gogh.  "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything."
