SOMEDAY ISLAND
Most individuals live on an island. The island is beautiful. It has everything anyone can ask for. Huge sprawling trees. Beautiful white sand. Clear blue warm water. Perfect weather all year round. The sun rises every morning in the East and sets in the West every evening. The inhabitants are quit unique. They seem to stay within a small portion of the island all the time. They have no intention to explore this beautiful island. They are satisfied with what they have and where they are. They would prefer not to rustle any feathers. Does this remind you of anyone? Obviously, the above introduction is a satire. Or is it? You see the majority of individuals live on what I describe as "Someday Isle." Someday they'll do this or do that.
You have all heard them. They are adamant and, will tell you convincingly that someday I'll write that book. Someday I'll take that trip. Someday I'll open that ice cream shop. Someday I'll run that marathon. Someday I'll change careers. Someday I'll start training for that Ironman. Someday I'll join that gym. Someday I'll but that car I always wanted. Someday I'll get that tattoo I wanted. Someday I'll finish my degree. Someday I'll go to law school. Someday I'll go bungy jumping. Someday I'll learn to snorkel. Someday I'll learn to tango. Someday I'll get that cosmetic surgery I always wanted. Someday I'll paint that painting I've been wanting to paint. Someday I'll get in shape. Someday I'll learn to cook. Someday I'll learn that language I always wanted to learn. Someday I'll let my parents know how great they are. Someday I'll go on that cruise. Someday I'll tell the boss how I feel. Someday I'll start that food truck I always wanted. Someday I'll get married. Someday I'll have kids. Someday I'll join that club I always wanted to join. Someday I'll climb that mountain. Someday I'll buy a dog. Someday I'll start that business. Someday I'll go back to school. Someday I'll tell her I love her. Someday I'll go on a diet. Someday I'll stop smoking. Someday I'll start living after my kids graduate high school. Someday I'll have time after my kids graduate college. Someday I'll visit the great wall of China. Someday I'll change my life. Someday I'll die! I hope you get the picture because if you don't someday you will!! But that someday may be just a little too late.
Many individuals procrastinate because they are afraid of failing. I get it. Having clear goals in writing, can be an effective way to take you off that metaphorical " Someday Island." Having goals in writing is important because you need to see them everyday. If it is a vacation you want to take to Costa Rica, print a picture of a beautiful place in Costa Rica and tape it to your bathroom mirror with a specific date you want to vacation. That way in the evening while you are getting ready for bed, it's one of the last things you see. In the morning when you're getting ready for your day, it's one of the first things you see. Visualizing your goal works wonders on your subconscious to bring your desire. You need to take action to start the momentum towards your desire. To me, this is the best way to get you off, "Someday Island." I leave you with a poem on point titled "Nearer."
"If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire. If you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them."
C.S.Lewis
Just a thought.
