AWARNESS
As I go through life, I have learned that the majority of individuals are just going through the motion in the theatre of life with no real purpose. In other words, if you ask someone why they do whatever it is they do, you may get one of two responses. Either they will say they don't know or they'll say, because everyone else does it. It is almost as if they are living in a twilight zone. They are not really living in the present. They are reliving the past or worrying about the future. If you think about it, it is a dysfunctional way of living your life because the past is history. Regardless of how much you revisit your past, whether it's favorable or not, regardless of how much effort or wishful thinking we put into it, it can not be changed. And, to worry about the future whether it is a positive expectation or an upcoming stressful situation is completely useless. The future is not real because it just isn't. In fact, it may never get here. There are no guarantees you will wake up tomorrow. I understand we all may plan a vacation or have certain future expectations but, we need to keep it all in perspective. If you think I am being unreasonable just keep in mind that the life insurance business is a multi billion dollar industry. Moreover, what has always kept me grounded is an intense sense of awareness.
I do not profess to have special powers. But, I do feel that I have a deep sense of awareness that has always, from the time I can remember, guided me through life and into the present. I have always seen my life from a perspective of being in the moment. I know this may sound weird to some but, maybe this has something to do with my spirituality. This is not about any specific religion or cult. In fact, those who know me, know that I am not a religious person. As I evaluate my life from a here and now perspective, I seem to be more connected to whatever it is that I am doing. For example, as an attorney if I am counseling a client in my office or arguing a case in court, I detach from my present moment for a split second and this exercise keeps me engaged in the present. It's akin to an athlete or a stage performer stepping out of their role for a second to take a deep breath and refocus. Which in return, keeps me focused on accomplishing what ever it is I want to accomplish. It sounds ironic but, detaching from the moment for just a few seconds allows me to control my mind and stay focused and deeper in the present moment. That is what athletes call, "being in the zone." This all boils down to awareness. If individuals understand the power of awareness and living in the moment, I believe that it would help in relationships, health, fitness, wealth, etc. Every aspect of an individual's life can be better by just increasing their level of awareness. It will change your entire life in a positive way. If individuals would take a moment to evaluate where they are in their lives and focus on the changes that they want to make, it would increase their sense of awareness. It really is that simple. It is no different then when I go to the gym and I see a person who is just getting started trying to figure out how to use certain equipment but they can't figure it out so they get discouraged and quit. But, just before they quit if someone were to show them how to properly use the equipment, you can see a sense of relief and the flood gates seem to open up and make them bolder and confident by pushing them to use other equipment that they may not have attempted to use in the past. This is why whenever I am in the gym and see someone who appears to be confused, I will always offer to help them.
Awareness is part of our spiritual makeup. We all have this inert ability and desire to want to grow and create but we don't all use it because of our lack of understanding of awareness. To me, awareness is an important aspect of living a complete and joyful life. This is not taught in school. Or if it was maybe I missed it when they were teaching it. Just being sarcastic! I also don't remember my parents teaching me about awareness. But, I am sure they were clueless about this topic because if they were aware, no pun intended, they would have taught me about it. We have all heard the adage, "being at the right place at the right time." I would take that a step further and say that to take advantage of the aforementioned, you need to be "aware" that your are at the right place at the right time. I leave you with a poem on point titled, "To-day."
To-morrow, what does it matter? To-day that is here! To lend or to spend for my purpose. All without hindrance or fear, to-day only matters. To-morrow's a dream and a fear! To-morrow, I never shall own it. To-day that is mine! What if I take it and make it to something divine! So shall I never fear sorrow, dear time if you go soon or stay. So shall I fear no to-morrow and gratefully live each to-day! Annete Wynne.
Just a thought.
