SUPERSTITIOUS
Superstitious is believing in beliefs that do not have grounds in logic and reason in the physical world. It may sound crazy but superstition requires some kind of belief that something, usually bad will happen. For example, things like walking under a latter, or a black cat crossing your path or breaking a mirror, whether intentional or accidental. Prior to my enlightened years, I remember my mother telling me when I accidentally broke a mirror that I had to immediately urinate on it or else something bad will happen to me. That was very stressful for me as a child - believing all that crap. Athletes are notoriously superstitious. Especially in baseball which I played at an advanced level through college and a brief time after college. I remember if a teammate had a great game, he would copy exactly the same routine for the days and games that proceed. Let me tell you that sitting next to a teammate that has not washed his jock strap in days is horrific. Watch a baseball game and you will see behaviors that are on the cusp of obsessive compulsive disorder.
It is all about belief. But, I must warn you that is can be both positive or negative. So why not keep it positive? One question, that I guarantee every person asks themselves, even if things are presently fabulous is, "how can I make my life better?" This question will follow you everyday until you either die or you resolve what ever it is you want to change for the better. The fact that you are reading this article is great news because you are alive and wanting to resolve your life question. I also believe you are on the path to success or else you would not have discovered my blog. Believing in yourself is very powerful. It really does not matter if others do not believe in you. The question is whether YOU, believe in yourself. You can only accomplish what ever you believe in and no more. Belief is the evidence in the things not yet seen. You can do anything you think you can do. I believe that this power in self belief, is the god in all of us. This inner god, the true god that we are all a part of. No one can be alive and not have this true god in them. Some call it your soul or your essence or your energy. Call it what you please that is not important. The critical part is your belief in You. In the god that is you. The unlimited potential that we all have. This creative power inside.
I enjoy watching professional sports at times. It amazes me to see an athlete do something special in a game and after the game when he or she is being interviewed they give thanks to the god above. Please remember that I am not a religious person. I am a spiritual person I say this because I do not want to offend anyone who is religious. That is not my intention. But, I can not wait for an interview where the athlete says, "first I want to thank myself, the god within me for my accomplishment." Some may think that is humorous or arrogant but, since we were all created in god's image then, we are all god. To me, god is internal. Not an external disassociated god who is judging everyone. You as part of god are entitled to every good thing in life you desire. YOU are the only one who can stop YOU from living the life YOU want. Ironically, many have strong beliefs in superstition but little or no belief in our internal power to succeed. Defeat does not need to follow victory. Victory should follow victory. We have all heard individuals say, after something occurred in their favor, "knock on wood." How about next time say, "I believe and therefore, I received." I leave you with a poem on point.
"The leaves were slowly falling, dying. But, the roots never gave up. And, when everyone thought its end was near, the sun touched the tree, fondled it, making it the loveliest for all to see." Believe in yourself and, be the sun that re-energizes your life. And no doubt that one day I will see you sun bathing at Maundays Bay Beach in Maundays Bay, Anguilla.
