I have several passions but one that ranks up there is reading. I have an inherent desire to learn. Reading is my conduit to feed that desire. I have been told that I have an ability to predict the future and to that I say, "that is ludicrous." What I have is the aforementioned love of reading. I believe because of my constant reading, and desire to learn, it seems to others to be some kind of ability or magical power. It is the same ability that we all have if we read. There is so much knowledge in books. It's been said we function on only 10% of our brain capacity. Can you imagine if we can increase that to 50%. Or how about 25%? How about just an additional 5%? Can you imagine what that slight increase would do to your life? I get it, most individuals have busy lives. Some have children, demanding jobs, or other commitments. However, I'm guessing most people can get up just a half hour early to read. If it's important to you, wouldn't you get up early to do it? I believe most individuals do not consider reading important and that is where the problem is.
A common denominator with successful individuals is that they constantly read. Some will read a book or two a week. I'll confess, I read every day a minimum of 30 minutes. That seems to be the right balance for me. In fact, I get ideas for my articles from either mediating when I am working out or from reading. Since I enjoy sharing stories, after I finish a book, I enjoy discussing it in my articles. I recently finished a book by Ichiro Kishimi titled, "The Courage to Be Disliked," and it was an amazing read. I highly recommend it. In summary it's about intellectual freedom. At least that is the way I interpreted it. In order to be totally happy and free you need the courage to be disliked. In other words, while you are pursuing your bliss, you need to understand that not everybody will like you. There is this constant conflict for recognition that destroys your freedom. It totally makes sense because if you're living to please others, you are living their lives and not your own. I recently took my family to a Morgan Wallen concert. I was impressed with his talent. One aspect that was really irrelevant to the concert was that he has had long hair for a very long time and a few days prior to the concert, he shaved his head. He just stated he was tired of long hair and wanted a change. As you can imagine, social media went ballistics. Some favorable statements some not so much. That is a perfect example of what it means to have the courage to be disliked. He is living his life as he chooses. The best way to be loved by everyone is just simply to not do anything worthwhile. But remember, the most important person in your life that you need to please is the reflection you see in the mirror. I leave you with a quote on point. "If you are searching for that one person that will change your life. Look in the mirror." Author unknown.
Just a thought.
