PRISON
Society wants us to think that prison is for the law violator. A prison is a building in which people are held for punishment after a conviction for violating the law. As an attorney, I have been in many detention facilities to meet with individuals that I have represented. I hope that is not a reflection on my lawyering abilities that many of my clients are in these facilities. I'm being humorous because I am confident in my legal abilities. It is just the nature of my chosen practice area. I have always stated that by far, the single most place on earth where creative talent is found, are in these facilities. The problem is that these individuals use their talents and focus on wrong doing or self fulfilment instead of good. If only they would use their abilities for societal good, the planet would be unrecognizable.
Think about this for a moment. From a spiritual perspective, most individuals live in their own self imposed prisons. They are living behind bars. These bars may not be steel bars but they are just as damaging. These bars are made out of fear. I would argue that they are more debilitating than steel bars. At least in a traditional prison setting there usually is a time certain where the individual will be released once they paid their debt to society. It would be a rare occasion where an individual would be behind bars for life. However, in real everyday life, individuals are sentencing themselves to a life sentence. And, most are clueless. Ask anybody you know to try something new and hear their response. The self imposed fear that they live under is astonishing. But, it is masquerade in the form of a comfortable life. To me being comfortable is being at the end of your life. Doctors practicing in the are of geriatric medicine will advice the next of kin of a dying patient to, make sure their loved one is, "comfortable." If you watch any sports, more often than not a team that is "comfortable" with a lead ends up losing the game. There are countless stories of individuals who have lost all their earning because they were "comfortable" and stopped performing. Or stopped creating and therefore their business along with their drive went kaput. To me comfort is a death sentence with a fear component attached to it. For the athlete it may be fear of injury since they are comfortable with a lead. For the business owner it may be fear of trying something new since up to now they are successful. For the wealthy it may be fear of losing money since they are comfortable where they are.
Unleash the metaphorical animal and live your life. Leave no stone unturned. Live a full life! Leave nothing behind because you can't take it with you. I leave you with a poem on point titled, "Time goes by."
"Time goes by and slips away just as the sky turns from blue to gray. We are here but only for a short stay. Don't let life pass with words you never say. Don't live in anger, with fear and regrets. Seek forgiveness and lay your pain to rest. Don't judge too quickly as you may be wrong. Instead choose to live your life as an uplifting song. When tears fall wipe them away as they will only last but for a day. Sometimes we hurt because we care. Sometimes life seems unfair. We make mistakes we wish we could change and wonder how our life could be rearranged. Second chances last only for so long. Reach out to others as we are only sisters and brothers. There are angels in heaven that watch us every day. They look over us as we laugh and play. Live with joy and when you lie down at night thank the lord and release any strife."
