MIDLIFE CRISIS
A midlife crisis is a transition of identity and self-confidence that can occur in middle-aged individuals, typically 45-65 years old. Many view midlife crisis as a negative stage in the aging process. It's probably viewed this way because individuals start to understand their mortality. I was recently discussing the possibility of purchasing a convertible and my 2 young daughters asked me if I am going through a midlife crisis. I laughed but, wondered where would a 13 and 12 year old get that from. Certainly not from me or their mother. Maybe I need to pay a little more attention to the reality shows that they enjoy watching. However, I can understand why this stage in a person's life can lead to depression and anxiety. Why would anyone want to feel they are getting old? However, from an enlightened perspective, the true essence of who we are is not your body or your age. It is your soul. Or call it whatever it is you want to call it. Some call it energy spirit, the god inside, etc... It really doesn't matter what you call it. But one thing for certain. Your soul or what ever you call it, never changes. It doesn't age. Your body, well that's a different story. That changes on a daily bases. For confirmation, look at pictures of your self a few years ago and compare it with a current one and, you will see what I am referring to. Actually, you really don't have to even go back a few years because, you body changes every passing second. So for the unenlightened, emphasis is put on the physical component of life. The external. Therefore, what you see is it. However, we are more than what we see or feel. The true self is spiritual in nature. It is what we don't see. So this is why I believe that the words midlife crisis, for most individuals are negative words.
I look at a midlife crisis as a non-crisis. In fact, I see it as a very good place to be. Because, at this stage, the soul is communicating with us that it needs to be fed to fulfill its purpose to be creative. What for some individuals may be a negative, depressing time, I consider positive. It's a sign that there is more to life. That what used to satisfy you is now missing its mark. A sign that something inside of you wants to come out, to be creative. The problem is that most individuals think that getting the sports car or switching spouses is going to make them happy but, that is the wrong approach. You see, exterior sensory quick fix, ego satisfying activities will never fill your soul with the creative desires that it's requesting. True happiness comes from within. It's internal not external. I view a midlife crisis as an awakening of your soul. The tearing down of external barriers. A midlife crisis to me, is an understanding that you are more than what you see. An understanding that there's more to life as it relates to your personal growth and purpose. A bridge to the awakening of your soul and a merger with the physical eternal self. At this point you will see and enjoy life in a different and satisfying way. You start to understand that you are eternal but that since you are present at this time on earth, that you have an obligation to live your life to the fullest. An obligation to leave no stones unturned. Please understand that I am not suggesting to live recklessly or abandon your family. What I am saying is to live a deep, spiritual, purpose driven life with your loved ones. And this my friends is a true midlife crisis . Or, maybe it should be re-titled to a midlife awakening. I leave you with the following quote by Nietzsche. "The voice of beauty speaks softly; it creeps only into the most fully awakened souls."
Just a thought.
