DISCIPLINE

My family and I are cleaning up some loose ends for our vacation that we planned a few months ago.  I need to give recognition to my wife who took the lead in making the reservations and booking all the historical sites that we want to see.  I'm not mentioning where we are going because that is irrelevant and may sound somewhat boastful.  So, at the gym today I was thinking how grateful I am, and a question kept popping up in my mind.  How did I get here?  How is this kid who was born and raised in NYC in a government subsidized apartment with very modest means get here?  I started thinking about those questions.  One thing for sure is that I'm not any more special or superior to anyone else.  If I am able to get to where I am today, anyone can.  It truly is that simple.  So, you may ask, why don't more people do the things I do, to be in a similar position that I am? Because, if it's that simple to do, it's also very simple not to do.  So, to break it down even further, I believe that it all comes down to discipline.
Without discipline, you're lost.  That simple.  It would be akin to a ship without a rudder.  the ship would be controlled by the wind or the crashing waves.  It would have no purpose, no destination.  It will end up wherever.  This is no different than a person.  Without a plan and discipline for working towards your goals you would be a lost soul.  You ever wonder why some have and some have not, assuming all else is equal.  I understand that in today's polarized environment some want to focus on external factors or excuses to justify not having.  I'm not trying to be insensitive to those arguments because I am a brown, Latino, first generation immigrant.  However, I never allowed anyone to dictate what I can or cannot do.  It is my life and my choices.  If I were to allow someone else to make those choices for me, then, it's my problem not society's.  Moreover, I can only conclude that I am where I am because I have always stayed disciplined, on whatever it was that I wanted to accomplish.  In life, whether you are disciplined or not, you will be paying the price.   The piper will eventually collect.  You will pay the price for not being disciplined or you will pay the price for being disciplined.  You will pay the price for allowing life to take over your rudderless, undisciplined life and I assume that would be a very steep price to pay.  Or you will pay the price for living a purposeful, disciplined life for a modest price tag.  I subscribe to the latter.  I leave you with a quote on point.  "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment."  Jim Rohn
