CEILING
I was working out today and I started thinking about life as I always do. Working out to me has always been soothing. It is my special place where I come up with ideas. Many ideas. I guess it would be akin to an epiphany one may experience in a house of worship. So, I started thinking and two thoughts came to me. The first thought or idea was a reflection of a wall I've hit in the past two weeks. I'm considering launching a podcast that will be linked to my website. It would be a once-a-week live broadcast. The date and time or the launch date is to be determined. This is in the inception stage. It will be an inspiration podcast that will fall in line with my articles. However, the wall I've hit is deciding on the title of my podcast. But it came to me while I was working out. The title will be, "The Right View." This seems to be in line with my passion to inspire others to think. You see life is all about peaks and valleys. That's just the way life works. Jim Rohn used to compare life to the seasons. There will be personal winters where you can't seem to figure it out. There will be beautiful springs where everything seems to be going great. However, the seasons rotate, and we have to deal with them. That's what life is all about. So, if I can help or inspire some to live a life of their choosing for the service of others, I will be doing my part. The second idea is probably more of a thought which led me to the title of this article. It is connected with watching my daughters a few days ago at their softball game and, what some individuals refer to when discussing how far girls/women have advanced in business and sports. It is sometime referred to as shaterring the glass ceiling.
I remember reading a story where a professor walked into her classroom with a glass of water. Most student assumed she was going to lecture on optimism verses pessimism and whether they see the glass as half full or half empty. Instead, she went down a different path. She told the class that if she would hold the glass for an hour, her arm would ache. If she held the glass for a day, her arm would go numb and feel paralyzed. You see, the weight of the glass didn't change but the longer she holds it, the heavier it gets. I believe individuals have a difficult time accomplishing what they want in life because they hold on to negative thoughts. Eventually, it will weigh you down and metaphorically paralyze you. You don't have to be a physician to figure this out. There have been countless studies connecting negative stress to all sort of diseases and physical ailments. So let go of the excessive negative baggage. Moreover, shattering the glass ceiling should come with a caveat explaining that the glass ceiling will never be shattered if you don't flush away the garbage that has refuge in most minds. The only ceiling I'm aware of is the ceiling in my home. I never really liked the phrase, "shattering the glass ceiling," because I truly believe we are all infinite. We have no ceilings other that the ones we create in our minds. We have no limits. You may not get to where you want to go but, only because you stopped, not because you encountered a metaphorical ceiling. I leave you with a quote on point. "You're alive. That means you have infinite potential. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything." Neil Gaiman.
Just a thought.
