ADVERSITY

The way I see it, adversity is a good thing.  Some will look at it for what it is, misfortune or conflict.  I see it as a necessity for growth.  Without it, you are lifeless.  Think about it.  If you are a baseball player and, let's say you are in a slump.  In other words you are zero for thirty.  Which means that in the last thirty plate appearances you have not had a hit.  Pretty lousy right?  But, look at the flip side.  You are obviously playing or else you would not have the opportunity to be hitless in your last thirty at bats.  Eventually because you are playing, you will snap out of it.  And, if you do not, maybe baseball is not for you.  But, the benefit of knowing it early on is a good thing so  you will not waste your time in a sport you were really never interested in to put the necessary work into it to succeed.  I was once told by a law enforcement officer that if you are doing your job, you will get complaints.  That seems to be a form of adversity.  To some, that may be a bad thing but as I see it, it means you are not hanging out in the local donut shop, gaining weight and doing nothing on tax payer dollars.  You are actually working.
If your life is perfect.  In other words, there is no adversity noise around you, you are not growing.  Children fall before they learn to walk.  If nature had it that once a child falls he becomes so petrified of walking, that the child will not walk. I would have invested in the Segway industry.  There would be more segways than cars on the road.  If a marriage does not work out, does that mean that you are giving up on the institution of marriage?  I can go on and on with countless examples on why adversity is a good thing.  Just because you failed at something, that certainly does not mean you are a failure.  That experience will make you better the next time around.  A failure to me is a person who does not want to try anything because of fear of failing.
Perfection is not a requirement for a successful and productive life.  Do you know where you will find individuals who have no adversity in their lives?  In a cemetery!!  I am not saying live a carless life.  But, live a creative life.  Do what you want to do.  If your heart is in it, you will succeed.  Do not become an atychiphobia,  that you fear failing so much that you stop doing the things that can move you forward to achieve your goals.  Do not let others tell you, you are no good.  Michael Jordan, is considered to be the best or one of the best basketball players that ever played.  But, did you know that he was cut from his high school basketball team because his coach did not think he had the skills needed to succeed in basketball?  If he would have listened to that coach, he may never had continued playing.  And, basketball fans worldwide would have missed out on watching such an amazing talent. And, there are many individuals out there that were discouraged early on who gave up.  And, not only did they give up on themselves but, we all missed out on their greatness.  Keep that in mind next time you are contemplating whether you want to attempt something but, fear is trying to talk you out of it.  I leave you with the following poem on point, titled "Adversity."
"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.  If we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome."
