ADJUSTMENTS
I was doing my cardio recently and while I was getting off of my favorite equipment, which is an elliptical air glider, I was approached by a member at the club where I work out who asked me "How do you have the time to work out as much as you do?" My response was pretty quick and spontaneous. I told him, "I don't have the time not to work out." I literally cannot afford not to work out and do my part to stay healthy. To me life is all about priorities and adjustments. I am at the health club religiously, almost every day. I do cardio every other day about an hour and a half and on the none-cardio days I lift weights. In addition, I incorporate stretching and foam rolling every day. I don't have to do this but, fitness and staying healthy has always been a priority for me. Life doesn't require me to be fit but, if I want to enjoy my life with my family, I require that of myself. I do not want to leave you with a false impression that it is easy, especially the older I get but, nothing in life is easy. I was under the misguided impression that life is smooth. I was never told that as you get older things start to ache. I was never taught that in any physical education courses I took in the past. I was under the impression that aches and pain was for individuals that were unfit. Boy was I wrong. Just imagine if I wasn't fit. So yes, life is not easy but, quite frankly I don't want easy. I want challenges. That is what makes me better and stronger. The view is always better the higher you climb the mountain. The problem is that many want the best view however, they don't want to sweat, grind or work for it. In other words, many individuals want the best life with the least amount of effort. That's not how it really works. I also understand that things happen that are out of our control but, that's the exception. To that I say, that's life. I'm always going to continue going until I say it's over. Sometimes when the unexpected happens, we have to make adjustments.
To me adjustments are a necessity of life. My fitness routines have been adjusted throughout my life many times. I'm sure they will continue to require adjustments especially as I get older. You have to be nuts to think that at 40, 50, 60 and so forth you could do what you were doing at 20. There are age factors, injuries etc., that show up in this dance called life. But, as aforementioned, that's life. What's the alternative? In other areas of life, business, family, mental, spirituality and financially etc., adjustments are a necessary component in advancing to the next level. For example, in my professional life as an attorney, I started in a certain area of law but as the needs changed in the community, I changed my area of practice. You need to understand that just because you have done something in a certain way, it doesn't have to stay that way. In business you have to continue to explore different ways of marketing your product of services in order to stay relevant. In order to continue to grow you need to make adjustments. That's part of the life deal. When I first started the practice of law, I would have never imagined having a trial by Zoom. In some jurisdictions it is now common practice. If the attorney doesn't adjust and change his ways he is done. Life will never stop for you, nor should you want it to. You are the one who bears the responsibility to continue moving forward; to continue growing; to continue making the required adjustments to truly enjoy your time on this planet. Life is not meant to be easy; it's meant to be lived - and lived to the fullest.
Just a thought.
