A CRACK
I was listing to a song by, Leonard Cohen, titled "Anthem." Part of the lyrics state, "...ring the bells, ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in..." I found those words inspiring. There is a crack in everything that's how the light gets in. If you are so set in your ways, you are paralyzing your spiritual growth. Each one of us is not an end all to a way of thinking or doing things. There are other brilliant ideas. We just have to learn to be good listeners. Open your mind and let the light in to new ideas. Your way may be better but, how would you know if you are not willing to listen. This stubborn behavior is most prevalent whenever there is an age gap. And, it cuts both ways. Sometimes an older person is so sure that they know the better way that they close themselves off to a younger person's ideas. Can you imagine where technology would be today with that frame of mind? We also know of the younger generation discounting the older folks as dinosaurs with their antiquated ideas. That too is a mistake. Younger folks may want to listen so that they are not wasting their time re-inventing the wheel.
Your creative imagination needs to be fed in order to create. Allowing, or at least listening to new ideas is feeding your soul of its desires. When we are open, curious, and attentive to others we discover a deeper, sacred connection. It leads to a new understanding. Boy, if only our politicians can heed my advise! Especially in our current polarized political climate. We all have free will to do as we please. I am not suggesting that every idea is a good idea. But, what I am encouraging the reader to do is to at least listen to other point of views because if you do not, you may miss the one "The Big One," that may change your life for the better. I remember years ago, I was working in a restaurant and a frequent patron who always requested me to serve him, asked me if I wanted to consider investing in a sports drink that he and his partners were thinking of launching. It was, relatively speaking, a small financial investment in the mid 80's. At that time in my life, I was not enlightened. So, I immediately turned it down. I did not listen!! Well, that sports drink was Powerade. If only!! Therefore, open your mind. Let the light in and even if you decide it's not for you, at least you listened and made an informed decision. I leave you with a poem on point titled "The Sun."
I told the sun that I was glad, I'm sure I don't know why; Somehow the pleasant way he had of shining in the sky, just put a notion in my head that wouldn't it be fun if, walking on the hill, I said "I'm happy," to the sun."
